Manufacturing Nurses Tunics, Uniforms, and Workwear in Iasi Romania.
Blue Autumn, uniform manufacturers, have been producing uniforms in Iasi Romania since early 2004. Our uniforms are sold throughout the UK and Ireland, where we supply mainly nurses uniforms and tunics.
Iasi contains many garment production units, it was at one time the centre of textiles for eastern europe, having its own textile university. Though over the last years the textile industry has been in decline here too, with volume production moving to China and the like.
Things change here over time like everywhere else. When we first arrived in Romania, it was not part of the EU and £1 bought 66,000 lei, now £1 buys 45,000 lei. Not only has our uniform business had to cope with exchange rate changes, due the growing strength of the Romanian economy, we have had to deal with the effects of price increases, brought about in part by their entry to Europe and the rising wage prices.
For now wages seem to be stable, for how long no-one knows with inflationary pressures and the on set of the credit crunch. In times gone by when prices rose in Romania, the mind set was to seek a bigger wage from the employer, however today, the employers do not have the money to be able to increase the wages. This situation is global.
Property in Romania and Iasi, is suffering the same problems as the property market in the UK. Property prices are still falling world wide, the same is true here. The average take home pay in Romania per month is between £180 and £280. With new 2 bed apartments on market in Iasi at a cost of £125,000. Things just dont add up here. There has to come a market correction. Romanians have experience the boom since the end of communist days, the bust under capitalism will be a new experience for Romania.
