Betsy Gray and the Hearts of Down. ( Newtownards and 1798 rebellion )
As a lover of history, the best book that I've read in a while has been Betsy Gray and the Hearts of Down,
This is a true story. It is a tragic love story which is centred around a young presbyterian women, and the 1798 Irish Rebellion. Maybe the reason that I find this great reading is the fact that the places that it talks about, are places which I drive past daily, it even mentions Newtownards and Frances Street. If you want to read a great book, this is a must ! It portrays the Ulster Scot's side to the Irish rebellion, and how the presbyterians where part of this rebellion. People don't think of Gransha, which is just outside Bangor and near to Newtownards when they think of Irish Rebellions.
